I’m glad that you were inspired by Mr. Bowers because he is an amazing teacher. He is understanding, affable and full of life and practical knowledge. I am also glad that you are prepared and heading to the next stage of life with confidence. You’re a hardworker (we’ve had class together) and I know you will make it far. Well said! Balanced and fair. Fox25 seems to be hiding behind “the public’s right to know,” but it was clearly done just to be sensational and get ratings at the expense of a private citizen’s career.

This article blatantly and deliberately contorts the facts. One has to ask why?
The Italian Justice System is one of the most liberal and pro defendant systems in the world. The convicted have an automatic right to a series of appeals. Judges must provide motivation reports to support their judgements within 90 days. It is an extremely slow and laborious system – but I can think of no other which grants more rights to defendants. Italians have become increasingly unhappy with the liberal nature of their courts. There have been many instances in recent years of guilty parties walking free.The court system within the USA, though not quite up to the Italian model in terms of defendants rights, is also a relatively decent system.

Judge Hellman’s decision to free Sollecito and Knox certainly caused concern. His motivation report should soon be available. There was a vast body of evidence against Knox and Sollecito – they were found guilty unanimously by the first court – when we take into account that the Italian system is so pro defendant – it becomes frankly quite silly and churlish to pretend no evidence existed. What is this “public disgust with a medieval Italian system”? Nobody knows whether Sollecito and Knox are guilty or innocent – but certainly the vast majority of public opinion within Europe and most likely the USA still considers them guilty and practically every writer or correspondent covering the case feels they are undoubtedly guilty. The claims in your article that Knox was abused in prison are completely unsubstantiated – as the writer is well aware. Your readers deserve better.

Amanda Knox attracted so much attention partly because she’s “one of us”, an educated young white woman, who was treated with extreme prejudice. Would an uneducated black person still be treated with such prejudice in the United States?
Learning about prisoners in the United States, I’ve gotten the impression over and over that they are victims, victims, victims. Many of the “guilty” ones too, even the some of the ones who were convicted of violent crimes. Victims of a disadvantaged, bad upbringing; victims of drug laws that push people to steal to support their habit, etc. etc. The justice system doesn’t produce justice.
No way that we can congratulate ourselves that the USA is doing justice right.

Lots of innocent people have been not just imprisoned but executed in the United States. And often on flimsy evidence.
At least Italy doesn’t have a death sentence and guarantees people a whole new trial. Let’s not congratulate ourselves yet!

This is an excellent article . In democratic society like ours, Change can take place through the ballot box or theoretically that’s what should happen. However, a lot of young voters have lost faith in our politicians and have turned away from politics and voting because of politicians’ broken promises and back room deals.
