Senior Activities Coordinator: Shateaya Smith
Shateaya Smith was the class JV Coordinator as well as Senior Activities Coordinator. In addition, she was also a student ambassador as well as a part of the track and field team here at Malden High School. Throughout her years here at Malden High Smith’s athletic career really took off “[She] [has] broke[n] the school record for Women’s Indoor Shot-Put twice (Junior and Senior year), as well as the Outdoor record for Women’s Shot Put twice and Discus Record Once (Senior year)” said Smith. When talking about her experience at Malden High Smith explains how the “Malden High staff as a whole has affected [her] greatly, the resources Malden High Teachers have offered to help [her] overcome so many hardships, were and are to this day, still amazing. Malden High has had a lasting memory, but it is mainly because of the people in it.” She also believes that having come to this school has also “simply offered classes [she] needed and was interest in taking in order for [she] to gain the knowledge I needed to pursue [her] dream career.” After Malden High Smith will be attending University of Massachusetts-Lowell where she plans to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Biology pre-Medical in addition to receiving a minor of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies.
Senior Activities Coordinator: Olivia Forestier
Olivia Forestier has left her mark at Malden High as the Class of 2019 Senior Activities Coordinator. She describes her experience being a part of the Student Council as “memorable and rewarding.” This opportunity has helped her “learn life skills and meet many great people that [she] may not have had the chance to.” Her journey throughout the years has taught her that “at the end of the day, the only person who can get you to where you want to be is yourself.” She states that “[she has] definitely become a lot more independent and driven.” She describes the past four years as “a roller coaster ride.” Forestier had many influences at Malden High that taught her to never give up. She explained that “The days [she] gave up on [her]self or simply needed someone to talk to [staff members] were always more than willing to listen.” She stated her gratefulness to those staff members that have influenced her. Forestier’s journey throughout High School goes beyond the Council, as she has also participated in athletics throughout her career. She has participated in Soccer, Swim, and Crew. Forestier will be attending Suffolk University in the Fall and plans to major in Education, “due to the growth and experience [she] had at Malden High.”
Historian: Cristobal Marey Seguel
Cristobal Marey Seguel was the class historian for the 2019 class. In addition, he also played lacrosse all four years that he spent at Malden High School. Seguel believes that attending Malden High School “has only affected [him] in positive ways shaping [him] into the person that [he] is today, and taking wonderful opportunities that have been givien to [him].” In his years at Malden High he also took the course Maldonian, which he explained was his favorite course due to the fact that “it allowed [him] to learn more about culture, clubs, sports and everything that surrounds Malden High and at the same time being able to take pictures.” When thinking about high school Seguel with remember putting together JV’s and watching it become a great show. After high school Seguel will be working as well as taking EMT training courses for his goal of being a paramedic.
Secretary: Salma Bezzat
Salma Bezzat is the Secretary for the Class of 2019 and has held this position for all four years of high school. She says that in this position, she was very “organized” and made it her priority to “recognize important issues.” In addition, Bezzat says her high school experience has been a journey “[she will] never forget” due to all that she has accomplished, such as performing in theater and band, being an athlete and, overall, being around a great group of people. She will be attending the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, and will be studying marine biology since she is very fascinated in marine life and has been for many years.
Treasurer: Santiago Callejas Portillo
Santiago Callejas Portillo is the Treasurer for the Class of 2019. He has held the position since his sophomore year. He says that being the Treasurer was a great experience and was “really interesting” since he was able to see “the other side of the school,” which is how the school plans for events. Overall, his time spent at Malden High was “a great four years” due to the events he has done, the sports he competed in, and the people he met. He will be attending Occidental College and is planning on majoring in Chemistry and Music.
