“Five Nights at Freddy’s” is known worldwide as a horror video game where the player is a security guard at an abandoned restaurant called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The animatronics in the restaurant come to life and attempt to harm the player throughout the night and the goal is to survive the night without dying.
With the game having so much fame and a devoted fan base, Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures decided to create a movie based on the video game recreating the classic Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza restaurant. Not only that but they built each animatronic from the game such as Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, Cupcake, and Springtrap.
The movie got mixed reviews but fans had high expectations for it as Blumhouse had a 20 million dollar budget and were working in part with the creator of the game, Scott Cawthon. The Malden Public Library decided to screen it for a movie night and offered light refreshments and drinks to sustain the movie night attendees.
Most of the screenings that take place in the Maccario Room at the Malden Public Library are usually rated PG-13 or under because the young adult program is for kids from grades 6-12. Other movie nights the library that are held outside of the young adult program don’t have those limitations as they usually have an older crowd of people that attend.
Since this is a young adult movie night grades 6 through 12 were involved. While this movie is rated PG-13 it does contain scenes of violence and bloody images.
The movie begins with introducing Mike Schmidt, the soon to be security guard of the Freddy Fazebear’s Pizza restaurant. He gets offered the job and decides to take it due to his love for his younger sister Abby. Without taking the job Mike will lose custody of his younger sister so taking the job was his only option. Throughout the film Mike finds out that dead children haunt the animatronics and want to take Abby’s soul so he does whatever he can to make sure that his sister is protected and safe.
Young adults can look forward to a screening of “The Marvels” with a female cast of the well known actors Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris at the library for the month of February.
The Malden Public Library wishes to bring the community together with the events that they are hosting bringing people from different races, cultures, grades, and ages together to enjoy an afternoon together with art activities and movie nights.
