Memory Shop, a local photo booth shop located at 230 Newbury Street in Boston, opened just two months ago. Unlike other retail stores, “it’s more of an activity to do,” said Elle, a worker at Memory Shop. Customers have total freedom to take as many photo prints as they wish, design them the way they desire, and make memories with loved ones the way they want. Memory Shop provides a fun environment to be with your family and friends, giving you the chance to create enjoyable memories and have physical photo prints to look back on. “I like how I can take pictures with my friends and nobody has to be left out,” senior Sofi Le expressed.
As soon as you walk into the shop, you’ll immediately be greeted by an attentive worker who’ll guide you on how the photo booths work. There are three main private photo booths, all with different colored backgrounds: pink, blue, and cream. Going further into the shop, two other booths are themed rather than just a solid color, one has the setting of an elevator and the other has a theme depending on the year’s season. Inside the booths, there are several different formats for your photos available, as well as cute decorative filters. You can choose the amount of strips of photos you want, one strip of prints is $4, and the price varies depending on the number of strips.
At the very center of the shop, there’s a great selection of props to choose from and wear while you take your pictures. It consists of cute animal and fruit hats, goofy-styled glasses, funny-looking headbands, and other props you can hold to enhance your photos. To the right of the shop, there’s a mirror station where you can do touch-ups. In the back of the shop, there are shelves full of items you can purchase such as colorful photo holders, little collectible figurines, and cute plushies.
Since its grand opening on September 21st, it’s become popular within the Boston area and with local cities, such as Malden. Many students from Malden High have gone there after discovering about it either from social media or seeing it in person as they walk around Newbury Street.
“The shop was pretty small but it was so cute. There were bright colors and props everywhere that made the place very fun,” sophomore Sofia Vargas observed.
“My experience at the memory shop was enjoyable. The pictures came out great and I had so much fun with my friends trying on all the accessories,” sophomore Kamani Gomes remarked.
With only five photobooths in a small space, the shop tends to get overcrowded. “It’s normally always really crowded… but that kind of adds to the atmosphere,” Le pointed out. This leads to there being “lines that are really long,” sophomore Sofia Evoras added. Despite this negative factor, students still find a way to have a good time and their experience is always good in the end. “Our experience was great and we had a lot of fun. It’s a cute place to visit with friends or a significant other,” Junior Michelle Shi and Sophomore Kevin Parada exclaimed.
Although every student that’s gone to the Memory shop has made different memories, one common experience they all had was that “it’s fun to go there with friends and take photos, it’s very memorable,” Malden High alumni Tiffany Pham concluded.
