Glamour Pals is a national, mostly teen-run organization aiming to build connections through interactions, such as doing senior citizens’ nails or makeup and creating bonds throughout the community.
With this goal in mind, on February 20th, Malden High School’s Glamour Pals paid one senior home a visit to allow members of the organization to be granted opportunities to interact with our community’s seniors.
Members of the club agreed that although a few seniors were in attendance, the goal of the club was still achieved through group bonding. On the other hand, some members thought that the outing was not “too successful” solely because the seniors’ arrival was significant to the club.
Freshman member Ayusha Shrestha stated that regardless of not many seniors showing up to the meeting, “we were able to bond together with the time we had.”

The lack of senior citizens gave the members time to paint their own nails, do each other’s makeup, and get to know each other. Freshman Sofia Rivera voiced the true “glam” or overall point of Glamour Pals, which is to “foster community throughout different ages and give everyone a sense of happiness through cosmetics and socializing.” Rivera continued that the members were able to accomplish this “regardless of however many seniors showed up. The visit was very fun and an experience that I’m glad I was able to have.”
“I think it could have been better if [the seniors] were more aware of the event, but what was successful is that the meeting gave us as club members a sense of community and connection,” expressed freshman Lillyanna Keogh. “Luckily, we had one senior come in, which was good.”
Despite the unexpectedly low attendance, the club members claimed that the outing was a “rewarding experience” and a “great opportunity to build a sense of community with the people around you.”
For freshman Meybelin Guadron, the outing was “glamorous” because even though “not many seniors showed up, we got to interact with each other, kind of like a team bonding, which was really fun even if only one senior showed up. I had so much fun doing her makeup and answering questions about skincare and other makeup products.”

Another member, freshman Finn Queen, claimed that regardless of not having many attendees, it was “without a doubt, a successful event.”
“No matter how many clients we have, every Glamour Pals event is so welcoming, positive, and fun,” Queen continued. “Even when we aren’t painting nails or doing makeup, we’re building morale. It was a good meeting for that reason.”
“Glamour Pals is a great opportunity to build a sense of community with the people around you. Especially with people who have a common interest with you. Even though not many seniors showed up, I feel like it was still a great time for everyone to bond. I feel like it could have gained just a bit more traction if the seniors were more aware of it, but either way, it was very fun,” freshman Sabrima Bhattarai echoed.

Although the number of people showing up was less than expected, the Glamour Pals still created a great impact, displaying how beauty and buddies are not determined by number but through memories. The outing may not have gone as planned, but still, the event’s effects were “glamorous,” leaving the members with lasting moments they will not forget.
