From Mexico to the States, Everett to Malden, Gregory Malivuk has started his first year at Malden High after educating a wide array of students.
Malivuk takes pride in traveling, and his love for teaching was first sparked when he was educating children abroad.
“After college, I did some traveling and taught English as a second language in Mexico… it was like a way to keep supporting myself while traveling,” he said. After living and teaching in Mexico for fifteen years, Malivuk moved to the Everett school district to teach freshman math, and then finally, he relocated to Malden where he teaches math to all grade levels.
In the classroom, students work in groups on problems and collaborate while Malivuk floats around helping students in need. The classroom is quiet, and you can feel the energy in the atmosphere of students eagerly engaging with one another and learning valuable information.
“He is an interesting guy. Beyond the math skills, he’s a very educated guy who knows math content. I think he’s focusing on student connection, and he’s done a good job with that,” Principal Masterangelo stated.
Malivuk expressed that he also prefers working in Malden over Everett due to the easier commute. “It’s certainly more convenient, certainly easier to walk here, and that’s nice. I don’t have to drive, I don’t have to take the bus.”
