William Freeley, a former student teacher, has returned to teach Biology in the Science Department at Malden High School.
Freeley previously attended the University of New Haven, majoring in marine biology. During his time in college, Freeley would eventually student-teach at Malden High during the 2023-2024 school year. After graduating, Freeley would progress from being a student teacher to gaining the qualifications to become a teacher. In his own words, “Malden High was captivating. During my time here as a student teacher, I was able to observe and really understand the way things were.”
Shauna Campbell, who was assisted by Freeley while he interned here, is another teacher in the science department. She has vouched for his success last year as a student teacher. “He’s very approachable, understanding, and kind,” said Campbell.
In an interview with Christopher Mastrangelo, the current principal of the high school, he rejoiced in having Freeley return to the school. “He was with Ms. Campbell last year and he did an outstanding job,” Mastrangelo recalled.
“He has a lot of patience, he takes his time teaching things to help students understand, which is something we noticed from the beginning,” Camila Haro, a 10th-grade student in his period 6 class, stated.
Freeley is committed to creating meaningful connections with his students. He believes that building strong relationships is key to a positive learning environment. By understanding each student’s unique needs and interests, he tailors his teaching methods to ensure that everyone feels included and motivated to learn. His approachable demeanor and genuine interest in his students’ success make him a beloved figure in the school community.
Freeley has expressed how much he enjoyed and appreciated his time in Malden while teaching. His main goal as a teacher is to strive to connect with students.
Above all, Freeley’s love for his job shines through in everything he does. His enthusiasm for marine biology and education is well appreciated, inspiring students to develop a curiosity and appreciation for the subject. He hopes to create a classroom atmosphere where students feel excited to explore and discover new things. With his dedication and passion, Freeley is poised to make a lasting impact on his students and the school as a whole.
