As the class of 2025 nears graduation, many emotions fill the air. There is excitement for what lies ahead, but also a sense of nostalgia for the familiar faces, classrooms, and schedules that have been part of their lives for the last four years. From the first day of high school to the final few months, it is time to enter a new chapter. It is a moment many must brace for as they prepare to say goodbye to high school and take on the next chapter of life.
After high school, possibilities are endless. For many, heading to a four-year college is the route they want to take: it is an opportunity to dive into their studies, make new connections, and experience a new chapter of independence.
Senior Piya Vaghela stated, “I decided to go to college out of state to try to start new, far away from Malden, and experience more; that’s probably the most exciting thing about the entire process.”

Others may start at a community college, taking time to explore career options while saving money and staying closer to home. Some students jump straight into the workforce, wanting to start their careers and gain experience right away.
“I’m mostly excited to become more independent. I’ve always thought about what life would be like outside of high school and I just can’t wait to experience the college lifestyle,” stated senior Ashley Benfield.

For a few, taking a gap year is the best choice for traveling, working, or simply reflecting to the future before diving into studies. No matter which path each student pursues, the important thing is that it is their own decision, reflecting their interests, goals, and life beyond these four walls. The Class of 2025 proves that there is no definite answer to the future, but instead the world is full of options; each person is free to choose their course.
Junior Sana Elshafey stated that “the biggest piece of advice I’d have for the freshmen would be to complete your work on time—procrastination sets you back—and communicate with your teachers.” Elshafey continued that her favorite memories in school were during the joy and enrichment blocks because she was “able to spend time” with her friends.
As graduation approaches, many seniors are encouraged to reflect on their high school years. For some, it feels like time has flown by, while for others, it has been a mix of hard work, stress, and growth. From awkward encounters to making lifelong memories, many moments stand out.
“My favorite part of the entire year was definitely in freshman JVs,” Benfield. “I’ve gone every year since then.”
Benfield also shared some of her advice for freshmen: “Join as many clubs and sports as possible, make new friends, and try new things.”
As the seniors look back, the juniors are looking forward to their last year and preparing for what is to come. Many are starting to think about college applications, scholarships, and the stress of senior year exams. Junior Mitji Joseph mentioned, “Next year, I’m planning on joining fall BHCC early college classes and expanding on new things.”
“I’m going to miss the Afro-Caribbean Club and being the basketball team manager the most. My biggest piece of advice to underclassmen would be to build relationships with teachers,” Joseph concluded.
